Scrabble allows proper nouns

The world's most popular board games introduces "innovative" way to make the game more exciting. Mattel, the producer of the game, said that this innovation will make the game more exciting and will allow infusion of pop culture. Although the rule is not yet definite as of the moment, it drew various reactions from scrabble fanatics. But with this change, one can easily snatch big score with words like "Beyonce", "Rihanna", or "Boracay".

Scrabble was invented in 1938 by American Alfred Buttsand later sold and trademarked by Mattel in 1948.

Virtual Visita Iglesia

Visita Iglesia is a religious practice among Filipino Catholic faithful. It loosely means church-hopping or visiting as many churches as one could, or at least comply with the minimum of seven churches. It is usually being practice every Maundy Thursday and became an act of penance during the Holy Week. The Philippines, having the largest Catholic populace in Asia, is a home to many majestic, historical, and breathtaking churches. So the tradition of Visita Iglesia lives long in the country.

If you want to experience this great tradition, you can try it online by visiting the "virtual" Visita Iglesia established by our local clergy, But then again, it's more serene if you try it offline.

Earthquake Today

There's a long earthquake happens just today at this hour in the Philippines. It quite long, around 20-30 seconds and good thing we're safe here. I do not know exactly if there's casualty out there, hopefully none. Let's pray for the best!

Anne Curtis Nip Slip

Whenever there's smoke, there's fire. But we never expected it to be hotter than this.

The rumor which started and circulated via web was finally validated. Yes, Anne Curtis had an accidental nip slip via last Sunday's dance number in ASAP XV, a local variety TV show. Reports said Anne's "treasure" has been exposed for around 10 seconds while performing a dance number via cheering crowd. It was Anne's real and reel partner Sam Milby who got up into the stage to save the clueless Ann. But the heroic act is not enough, because in this days of camera phone, a mere second makes great opportunity for the incident to capture picture perfect moments.

Just be careful next time Anne. Meanwhile, enjoy the sumptuous photo.

Good Times with Mo, Mojo and Grace Lee

I've been following lately via web Magic 89.9 morning show's The Good Times. I am not really a radio fanatic and I didn't have the chance listening to show's radio broadcast every morning after realizing I could save almost eight thousand bucks per month for not bringing car in the office. I've been a commuter for almost two months now and good thing I bumped into The Good Times site. I just realized I missed a lot. I found out how addictive the trio of Mo Twister, Mojo, and Grace Lee was. It's like fine wine served with steak and chocolates. I mean, they've got all the right blend everyone, guys, girls, gays will love.

Try it and get hooked too. You were warned. The daily podcast and wrap-up of the show is available here: http://www.goodtimeswithmo.co.cc/

Manny Pacquaio is a King

There's no question Manny Pacquaio is a king. But the man does not excite me anymore.

Perhaps because MP is so strong that sometimes his fight became monotonous. He always wins so there's no suspense factor there. His opponent will just change, but it's the same fight as before and Pacquaio will always be the winner. The bet will no longer be on who's gonna win (because it would always be MP), but on what round or on what decision. Can you see my point? It's because MP is unbeatable, the sports becomes dull and less exciting.

Manny Pacquaio is king. He's getting stronger and stronger. But His fight will be just like an old movie being replayed for the nth time unless a real opponent as mighty as him comes. And by that, I don't really mean Mayweather!

Flash Forward into the Future

I'm getting addicted to the American TV series Flash Forward. It's in the sci-fi/drama/suspense genre and every episode is a real treat. The plot is simple yet rich, it does not take someone to be scientific geek to understand eveything. it's like my other favorite TV series Lost minus the confusion and chaos. I've happened to watch the first five episodes and can't wait to watch more. I think the real formula of this show is in giving the audience the whole picture of what's the plot is all about, and every characters and scenes became the pieces of the jigzaw puzzle to be solved.

In real word, I wonder how is it if we could peek into our future lives. If it's a bad future, should we take the courage to fight it off?

Anyone who loves coffee?

I do. It makes me feel alive.

At times when office hours seems monotonous, a cup of coffee is enough bring back the colors. No more sleepiness, boredom, and lonely moments. Coffee is a powerful potion that cures every "laziness cells" in human body and boost up its energy level. Coffee makes a great morning ritual. I always look ahead to every morning thinking that a cup of hot coffee is waiting for me. This aromatic treat makes me feel I'm really blessed and fortunate. So why in the world would our office hasn't fixed our coffee maker yet?

Free Gas for a Car Ads

While searching Google for some economical tips to save fuel, I bumped at this site offering "free" gas for posting ads on the rear bumper of your car. The ads is in the form of sticker not that big to completely ruin your car getup. Actual size varies from around 4-6 inches length and 2-3 inches height. The requirement is simple. Car owner just need to register online and provide some personal information, car details, and the route/frequency of your trip. For someone who considered privacy as huge issue, you might reconsider providing the information as this will give others a peek of your regular travel. The site promises up to 1,000 pesos bucks once your car was selected by advertisers. I've just recently signed an account so I cannot guarantee yet their veracity. But a thousand bucks for just a simple stickers, I really think this idea is a winner!

Visit www.myfreegas.com.ph for more details.

Traffic in EDSA

Last night, 24 February, was one of the worst traffic ever happened in EDSA. Maybe next to the one during Typhoon Ondoy. The 4-km distance of Ayala-Kalayaan became a three-hour trip. There's traffic everywhere, even the shortcut routes were clogged. I found a little luck by using the Bonifacio Global City way and exited at Gate 1, I guess I saved no less than 45 minutes. Along the way I could see many stranded passengers, some were clever enough to walk instead of spending more hours in traffic.

The atmosphere last night in EDSA got me thinking was there another People Power? Ironically, it turns out all the chaos and traffic was due to commemoration of People Power/EDSA revolution which took place years ago. I mean, why do we celebrate a "peaceful revolution" with some idea that would cause chaos? Well, only in the Philippines I guess.

Secrets on the Web

Everyday the web became more exciting. Last night, I bumped at this site which caters everyone's secrets - www.shhhh.co.cc

The website aims to be the common ground where people can post their most dreaded secrets in public, and everyone can express their advise or opinion. The real fun begins when everyone tries to outdo others by coming up with most creative/impossible/imaginative secret that you'll be left hanging on whether they're really true. The secrets vary from sex affairs, weird habits, crime, misdeeds, among others. There's even this guy who admitted he's a criminal/fugitive, a girl who claims she had an affair with her husband's dad, someone who witnessed a crime.

In the ideal world, this is a very good attempt to be an online "crying shoulder". But in the real world, it's just another one of those weird things you could find online.

Melai is Pinoy Big Brother Big Winner

Funny, comical, and fast talker Melissa was adjudged Big Winner in the recent edition of Pinoy Big Brother here in the Philippines. She bested four other finalists in the first ever Big 5 in Big Brother franchise history. Melissa or Melai is the audience's favorite since PBB opened last October 4, 2009 mainly due to her bubbly personality and comic antics very similar to comedienne Pokwang. Her most-loved "love story" with co-housemate Jason was also one of the best times of the season, and even topped the rating games besting other TV shows in the primetime slot. The odd love team of Jason and Melai (popularly known as Melason) became this generation's Gabby and Sharon, and even creating its own fanbase in online and offline community. Jason finished third place behind Paul Jake of Cebu, and bested Johann of Quezon City (4th place) and Tibo of Cagayan de Oro (fifth place). Melai is from General Santos City, the same place as Manny Pacquaio.

PBB is one of the passport of many local artists in making it big in the Philippine entertainment scene. It has produced Sam Milby, Kim Chiu, Gerald Anderson, among others. Now that they're out of the house, we'll see if they could follow the same footsteps as their predecessor.

Ara Mina for Councilor

I pity Ara Mina for being the latest YouTube clown courtesy of her interview with Mo Twister on the latter's IMO TV show. I think she should fire her PR Team for putting her in an uncompromised situation. Her ignorance or lack of knowledge on Philippine politics is a mortal sin for someone wishing to seek public office. Although I believe that mastery of Philippine politics or current events is not really a barometer of a good public servant, but at least, one should prepare well before going into the actual battle.

(Note: Ara Mina is one of the many actors in Philippine entertainment industry who will try their luck in politics come Philippine election on May 2010. She runs for Councilor in Quezon City, appeared in various "sexy" movies, and was once linked to Manny Pacquaio.)

Mom's Humorous Guide in Naming a Child

(I wonder how's the world would be if there's such a law naming child from the place he/she was made. In the Philippines, I guess there would be many baby SOGO, ANITO, VICTORIA, SUNKEN GARDEN, LUNETA, BORACAY, etc... lol)

Top 10 Signs You Need a New Job

  1. Office hours seems too long. You feel sleepy most of the time and you develop the habit of looking at the bandit clock every minute.
  2. Your Facebook shoutouts always said something "bad" about your day in the office. Everbody knows you hated your work, and you're very brave to broadcast your thoughts even in the presence of your boss.
  3. You really hate Mondays. You feel the extra weight to wake up every Monday mornings, and you wish everyday is a Friday.
  4. Your pay check can't even buy you a drink on a Friday night. Find a new job if your salary is not enough and you've been working like dog.
  5. Your boss is evil. And it only means you're working in hell, so try to be right by going out of that place.
  6. You are the wrong person in the wrong job. Career mismatch is really frustrating. Try to find a job that will use to the fullest your potential.
  7. Your company is unstable. Who wants to ride in a sinking boat? Find immediately a life craft or a bigger boat before it's too late.
  8. You don't have personal growth anymore. It means you reach the peak or the work becomes redundant that you think even a complete idiot can do your work well. Find a new job before a new idiot takes you job.
  9. Your health is compromised. Health is wealth, and work hazard should be a top consideration. Find a job that will promote healthy living, and I don't mean a work in a spa or gym.
  10. You are not happy. Happiness is eveything so find a new job unless you want to die young or live miserably a very stressful life.

2010 Philippine Nurse Licensure Exam Result

A total of 37,527 out of 94,462 total examinees or 39.73% successfully passed the Nurse Licensure Examination issued by the Board of Nursing last November 2009 in Philippine key cities. Currently, being a "nurse" is one the most sought career here in the country as it promises opportunities of working abroad. Hopefully there will be more rooms for the new nurses, and the other more to come. The government should initiate some legislation to produce local jobs for our nurses and other medical professionals so they would not think of leaving our country for greener pasture.

The 2010 Nurse Licensure Examination complete result is available for download here. (Source: Philippine Professional Regulation Commission)

First Monthsary

The After Six Guy turns one month today. Barely 31 days ago, on the first day of 2010, this blog promised to exist and stay. Not for days, or months. But maybe for years, or a decade. One month is another milestones. Although this blog still finds its niche, it proved true to its promise to exist and stay. Well, at least for a month.

Wanted: Yaya

All working parents would agree with me that finding the right Yaya (Babysitter) is one of our top problem. You can't really get the best of both world, and if you're really choosy you might end up having no yaya at all. Like what happened in my case. Now, I'm really empty-handed and I hope I could find the right one soon. My criteria are not that strict: she must be honest, and kind, and hardworking, and neat, and has a good time-management skill, and sense of humor. I don't care if she's not a good cook. My GF can do that!

The Avatar (2009)

If there's one thing Avatar really succeeded, it's in telling beautifully and artistically a very simple story.

Perhaps you'll agree that you've seen/heard/read/experienced several times the plot: A love story between two star-crossed lovers from both worlds, they must defy and sacrificed everything for a real happy ending. This masterpiece is a retelling of Romeo and Juliet and Pocahontas in one movie that will surely captivate moviegoers of all ages. Set in Year 2051 at the distant planet of Pandora, human Jake and Na'vi Neytiri fell for each other amidst threats of conspiracy and treachery. In its simpleness, it tackles almost all current issues the world face nowadays such as colonization, commercialization, environment protection, oppression, heroism, bravery, war, peace and love.

Technically, the film is superb and perhaps the best (so far) among digitally-enhanced movies. Every scene is a sure feast to the eye. I recommend you watch in 3D to really appreciate special effects. Like all James Cameron's films, Avatar ran for almost 200 minutes (including end credits) but you would never got bored since the transition is fast-paced and really entertaining. Just don't dare blink your eyes or you'll missed everything!

Parenthood Lessons from Jason Ivler

As a young dad, I got valuable lessons from the recent incident involving Ivler and his mom. There are allegations that Ivler's mom hid him in their house to escape from being caught by police authority. Ivler is the primary suspect for the murder of a top-ranking government official in the Philippines.

There is no question that parents have undying and limitless love for their kids, but "love" is not just about giving them the all best in the world, but giving them your best self. It's not about taking side on them, but letting them understand which side to take. Sometimes the hardest part of being a parent is to realize when is "too much" too much. It is our important role to give our kids the best, but it is also our role to set boundaries.

Top 5 City Driving Songs

  1. Boom Boom Pow - Black Eyed Peas is the real master of hiphop and techno music. Play this while driving 150 kph in an express way and you'll really feel the bumpin' boom boom effect. Just be careful and don't let the beat "rocks" you!
  2. Antukin (Sleepy) - This emo song came from Filipino rocker Rico Blanco, former Rivermaya lead vocalist. Play this when coming home late from the office, or after few hanging sessions with your girlfriends and you just can't resist being home soon for a sleep. The lyrics are like coffee that will wake you up especially with lines like: "gumawa na lang tayo ng B-A-B-Y! (let's make a baby).
  3. I Gotta Feeling - The only song that beats BEP's Boom Boom Pow in the countdown chart is, well, another Black Eyed Peas song. I Gotta Feeling has the same formula as all BEP hits: superb audio mix, witty lyrics, and hot chicks with a hot voice. Play this when on your way to the office, business meeting, or intimate date to give you that vibrant and positive aura (and maybe hot looks).
  4. Right Now (Na Na Na) - Akon says it all in the song so don't ask for further explanation. Play this when you've got the hottest date inside your car and you want to take every opportunity to get her. But, believe me, don't ever ever ever took the same mistake to play this when you're with your parents or your hot girl's parents. Not unless you want the relationship to end soon.
  5. You Belong to Me - This possessively-titled song really titilliates every man's senses. Just Imagine your girl saying that line to you and you'll forget everything. But, if you're not really into pop or country music, just keep in mind that the sweet voice behind the is a hot 19-year old blond, Taylor Swift. Play this when you're caught in a heavy traffic and you'll feel like being lullabyed in the arms of that sweet young blond.

Bro. Eddie Villanueva Campaign Jingle (2010)

One formula of a successful jingle is to keep it hip, danceable and trendy. Bro. Eddie Villanueva really know this with his "Eddie Ako" campaign jingle featuring rapper Cloc-9. The title of the jingle is a pun of Eddie's name which when loosely translated in urban Tagalog (Philippine language) might means "It's me!". It also features the "Bus ni Bro" (Brother's Bus), more like a symbolism of divine intervention towards his Philippine presidential bid come May 2010. "Bro" is known in Philippine pop culture as reference to God Almighty, and Brother Eddie himself is known religious leader.

Overall the jingle gives a fresh and youthful vibe, more like a Christian worship songs. It could easily won the "Best Charismatic Jingle" among all presidential jingles.

Noynoy Aquino Campaign Jingle (2009)

Benigno Aquino, Jr. or simply Noynoy is the eldest son of Philippine Icons -- former President Corazon Aquino and National Hero Ninoy Aquino. But he is more known, perhaps to the younger generation, as the brother of talk show host Kris Aquino. Kris usually mentioned Noynoy's name in her TV shows especially "The Buzz" & "Showbiz News Ngayon".

Noynoy's first jingle (because I expect there'll be more to come) highlights an all-star cast. Most of the big names in Philippines showbiz industry joined him for pro bono (as press releases said) including Kris Aquino (of course), Regine Velazquez, Boy Abunda, James Yap, Dingdong Dantes, among others. And if this is not enough, the jingle was written by hitmaker and composer Ogie Alcasid and sung by Asia's Song Bird Regine Velasquez. The jingle is really difficult to match by any presidentiable candidates. Although the symbolism of the whole concept is very meaningful, it seems to have that "elite" and "Grammy" appeal. Not that it's bad, it's just in Philippine election the best/winningest formula for infomercial are those with "masa" appeal, or the one that common people can relate to. Afterwards, they constitute majority of the voters. Overall, Noynoy's jingle can easily win for itself the "Best in Production Design" or "Best in Editing" throphy.

Manny Villar Campaign Jingle (2009)

Okay, admit it! The jingle is catchy, has simple lyrics, and has that "pop" appeal. If there's a contest for campaign jingles, this one can easily bag the "Best Campaign Jingle" trophy. I bet it will even reach platinum awards for record sales. By the way, Manny Villar is one of the presidential candidates here in the Philippines. The man who appears in the video could be our next President come election time this May 2010. You know, politics here is the Philippines is very similar to showbusiness. The more entertainment value you got, the more chances of winning.

But it doesn't mean I'll vote for Villar though. Please watch the video and judge for yourself.

Chinese man needs girlfriend

Single ladies out there, this is one good news! But to single men, it means more competition from our Chinese friends.

According to a recent government-funded research in China conducted by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, there will be a shortage of single woman in China by 2010. The proportion of man to woman will continue to increase leading to a higher number of single Chinese men. This is mainly due to an ancient Chinese practice from which couple put high preference to male offsring. There are many reported incidents of abortion once the couple discovered that they will be having a baby girl. Thus, gender imbalance became a critical issue for China and the world.

I just felt fortunate I was born in the Philippines where there are fewer boys. And every night is a real boy's night out!

Pacquaio vs. Mayweather fight continues

The super fight every boxing fans dreamed of between Manny Pacquaio and Floyd Mayweather on March 13 continues. This time not in the boxing ring but in pay-per-view buys.

Previously, both fighters did not come out to a compromise which prompted Top Rank's Bob Arum, Pacquaio's promoter, to schedule a fight for Pacquaio with Joshua Clottey on March 13 at the Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Two days after Team Pacquaio's announcement, Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer also issued a press release via ESPN.com that Mayweather will fight also on the same date against an undisclosed fighter. Some of the potential names to fight Mayweather include former junior welterweight titlist Paulie Malignaggi, former lightweight titlist Nate Campbell, former welterweight titlist Kermit Cintron and junior welterweight titlist Timothy Bradley Jr. The fight will be staged at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, the original venue of supposedly Pacquiao-Mayweather bout.

With both of the world's best fighters fighting on different bouts, the real winner will be determined in the pay-per-views sales of respective fights. This is a really difficult time for boxing fans.

The Rebound (2010) Movie Review

Due to heavy traffic, me and my GF failed to watch the first day screening of James Cameron's The Avatar in 3D. We were so late and we cannot wait for another three more hours for the next schedule so we decided to watch other movie instead. It's a choice between Zombieland & Rebound, and we settled for the latter since we're not on the mood for scary film.

The Rebound is a feel-good, romantic and funny movie which tackles May-December love affair. It stars Catherine Zeta-Jones as a 40 years old mom of two kids who moved in the big city (New York) after a painful divorce from her husband. Along the way, she met a 25-year old man played by Justin Bartha who is struggling to find a decent career and, like Catherine, is also mending a broken heart from his past relationship. The two becomes friend and later lover after some series of heartwarming events which started when Cathy hires Justin to be her kids nanny. The movie, true to its genre, has lots of comical and romantic scenes which fits well for Cathy and Justin. I cannot sense any awkward moments betweent the two, not even with Cathy who portrays a 40-year old single mom. It might not have the same effects as The Avatar but, overall, me and my GF had a good times. I recommend this one for mature couple who are in currently in serious relationship. You'll enjoy it and learn so many lessons in handling relationship, parenthood, career, and love life.

My personal rating for this movie: 8/10

Facebuko spoofs Facebook

I happened to drop by at this really funny site called Facebuko.com. Of course, we know instantly from its name the relationship with the popular social networking Facebook. If you're a real FB addict, you might mistaken this as the original thing. But Facebuko is funnier. Its a spoof version made by a Filipino blogger using Wordpress platform. Most local Filipino icons and celebrities have their "own" account, bashing and making fun comments with each others. Some of these celebs are Annabelle Rama, Mommy Dionisia, Ramon Bautista, Cha Cha (of Bulilit ad fame), Hayden Kho, Katrina Halili, Marian Rivera, among others. Well, a real Filipino ingenuity.

Visit FaceBuko.com and judge for yourself. Tagline says it all:

Akala mo Facebook, yun pala hindi! (You might thought its Facebook, but its not)

Pacquaio-Mayweather superfight off

The superfight every boxing fans awaits is off. In a press statement, Team Pacquaio's promoter Bob Arum said that both parties did not come up in an agreement on the issue of Olympic-style drug testing. Pacquaio vs. Mayweather dream fight slated on March 13 would have been history's biggest and richest and might not happen again in the next decade. It would have guaranteed each boxer $40 million each (including pay-per-view sales). But principle, over money, is the issue here. I think both camps have their own reasons (but honestly I think Floyd Jr and Floyd Sr. were just chickened of Manny's strength). As a boxing fan, I wish future negotiations will make this fight possible.

Maybe March is not just the right time. Please don't disappoint us, Manny and Floyd!

I failed to watch the holiday run of James Cameron's Avatar since movie houses here in the Philippines were bombarded by 2010 Metro Manila Film Festival film entries. I really wanted to see this film in the big screen. I know there's so much in this masterpiece that only the big screen could give. That's why I tried to be patient not to take a peek in Torrent for available download. Patience pays. In my hands right now are tickets reserved for me and my GF on Saturday for the special screening of The Avatar in 3D.

No spoiler, please...

Lucio Tan Jr. is now MRC Majority Shareholder

In a disclosure sent to PSE today 07 January 2010, MRC disclosed that Mr. Lucio Tan Jr. is now the majority shareholder of the company. What lies ahead is the question? If LTJ really intends a power plant it needs more money than the existing MRC's declared common shares. Next question, where to get the money? Try to answer that question and you'll know why I think MRC journey is not yet over...

MRC Confirms Deal with Lucio Tan Jr.

Now the rumor is finally cleared. Last night in ANC's Business Nightly hosted by Ricky Carandang, Mr. Benjamin Bitanga, a majority shareholder of MRC Allied Industries, confirmed that they are in talks with Lucio Tan Jr. for a P3-billion deal on a proposed power-generation project. They are still in the middle of negotiations to determine the final valuations/agreeemnt that's whyMr. Bitanga is still mum about the details.

I'm so lucky I met you MRC!

Indeed, when there is smoke there is fire. After two days of denying the issue, the company finally made an official statement which might accelerate MRC to an even higher position. I guess it will reach the ceiling again at today's PSE trading. Here's an excerpt from the letter/disclosure issued to PSE dated 06 January 2009:

Yes, we confirm that there is an ongoing negotiation with Mr. Lucio Tan Jr. regarding a possible Joint Venture that will involve acquisition of a power plant. No other details are confirmed as of this time.

And to borrow from my fave Square Heads song, "I am so happy I met you (MRC)..."

Biggest Loser soon in Philippine TV

I heard from a friend who's working in TV giant ABS-CBN that there's ongoing negotiations between the network and NBC on the franchise of the latter's hit reality TV series, the Biggest Loser. Biggest Loser is a health-reality show where overweight contestants undergo series of fitness regimen to become fit. The rule of the show is very simple: lose the most weight to become the Biggest Loser. Don't know yet if this news is true but I predict it will make Philippine TV more exciting. Perhaps they could do a "celebrity edition" first because there are many potential candidates.

MRC is this Month's Wonder Stocks

I wish more power to MRC and to people behind it. I wish good health, fortune, and healthy sex life to the jockeys. I wish they will do more of what they did since January 04, 2009 to make more people happy. I wish they can sustain the momentum until MRC reaches its target price of 1 pesos or even beyond that.

What's with all these wishes? Well, as expected MRC performs strongly in today's Philippine stocks trading. I'm very fortunate to buy at the low before it went an upward trend. Today it closed higher (again) at 0.75 or 10% up despite continuous denial from the company on LTJr entry. Traders know very well that whenever there's smoke, there's fire.

I finally wish for a fire!

Burj Kalifa: World's Tallest Building

The race to reach the sky is on with the inauguration of Burj Kalifa on January 4, 2009 (Monday). Its height, which kept secret for long time to prevent competition, is finally revealed. It stands at 828 metres (2,717 feet) out of the desert sands of what seems to be the richest and most progressive country in the Middle East. It became the highest landmark in the world to date dwarfing Taipei 101 in Taiwan which stands at 509.2 metres (1,671 ft). Burj Kalifa is previously known as Burj Dubai, and was later renamed in honour of United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nahayan. Construction started in 2004 and estimated total amount of construction is a whopping 1.5 billion dollars (just enough build houses to half of world's population).

The question now is who will be next in the race? Just dreaming, hopefully a 1 km skyscraper in Makati, Philippines.

MRC Strikes Again!

In Philippine stocks today, MRC does another rally by jumping as high as 46% before settling to its closing price of 0.67. It's a wild chase and luckily I made a little money by selling some of my low-performing stocks to accumulate more MRC. While the chase continues, the company issued another disclosure to PSE denying the rumor of Lucio Tan Jr. entry in MRC board. Maybe this disclosure triggered the minor correction and slowed down the rally. Nevertheless, I know many lucky traders out there who persistenly join the chase were very happy right now!

What's with MRC? (Part 2)

In the compelling saga that we'd call MRC journey, the company issued disclosure to PSE dated 04 January 2010 washing their hands over the unusual price movement of the stock yesterday. They said they have nothing to do with it. Meanwhile, positive news and buzz start to come out which may accelerate MRC movement to an even higher position at today's trading. Another good sign is the strong rally made by the US market.

And we know better the equation: good news + strong Dow = money money money.

Holiday Blues

I guess my energy level is zero, enthusiam level at negative. I feel like a lifeless robot. I guess it will take time before I get back to my working mode again. I need more cups of coffee to remain awake, more energy drink to keep going.

Blame it to long holidays. Now I understand why most successful firms hated long breaks because it took away their people's business discipline. Not that I'm complaining with long holidays (secretly I'm thankful and wish they were longer), I just hope there's some special button to press when "holiday blues" strikes us.

What's with MRC?

In Philippine stocks today, MRC rallied to a 50% increase.

It opened at 0.41 and climbed all the way to the ceiling price 0.54, making it the first top gainer Philippine stocks of 2010. I was able to buy a little volume at one of its highest position but I bet more rally will follow the coming days. At its 0.43 position, I already told my stock buddy to watch out but I was chickened a little bit due to losses I made last year. Too bad, because just minutes after, it climbed all the way to its peak price. And when I'm all set to buy, my broker's online system went offline. Bad luck!

Anyway, I managed to google some helpful information on MRC or MRC Allied Industries. Just read them and buy at your own risk:

Top 5 Helpful Tips to Treat Cat and Dog Bite

  1. Clean the wound. Immediately clean the wound and its surrounding area with soap and water. You can also use rubbing alcohol or hydrogen peroxide.

  2. Apply pressure. Apply pressure to the wound with a clean cloth to stop bleeding and/or remove animals saliva. Put sterile cloth to cover the wounded area.

  3. Elevate. For bite in the arms, keep the wounded area above the level of the heart to prevent infection and slow swelling. Do this until proper medical help is available.

  4. Seek medical help. Go to your nearest hospital for further help. If necessary the doctor might give you anti-rabies and anti-tetanus shot (if you haven't got one in the past 5 years).

  5. Observe your pet. You must observe the cat or dog who bit you for 10-15 days to verify if it develops signs of rabies or it gets sick on such time period. Report immediately the incident to your local veterinarian and to your attending physician.

Pet Owning vs. Parenthood

Parenthood and pet owning are two different worlds, too complex to unite. Some say pet owners are most likely responsible parents, but believe me the road crossing both is a real rocky one. I know that pretty well because I happened to cross the road today.

I love pets. I have dogs, birds, fishes, among others. As a newbie dad to a one-year old, I want my son to like the same things I do (including pets). I was very proud when my son pat our pet dog the first time, it was really a priceless moment for me. I really thought everything went well.

Early morning, my wife asked me to accompany her to Laguna to meet our college friends. We decided to bring our son with us so we could take him to the mall afterwards. Our hostess has a pet cat which my son liked the first time he saw it. He started touching and hugging it, but after a while, I heard him crying very, very hard. We were at panic moment after seeing him with lots of scratches over his right hand and leg.

We rushed immediately to the hospital but four of those we visited in Laguna and Muntinlupa area did not have an available anti-rabies vaccine. Imagine that? I really thought hospitals must have such antidote, after all they are hospitals, right? Ome hospital staff told me that anti-rabies are special vaccine and have certain expiration so most hospitals just purchase them on a need basis. I'm not really sure if this one is true, but I'll verify and will get back to that staff once my source tell otherwise. We finally had the vaccine at Asian Medical Center and Hospital in Alabang. It costs us P14,000.00 but we're glad our son got the immediate medication he needed.

One lesson I got from the experience is to slow down in introducing my kid with pets. I know it is a little traumatic for him right now, and maybe this is not just the right time. Or maybe I should start with a more tame and less wild pets...

Welcome 2010!

Happy new year everyone!

Each year promises a new beginning, but as each year ends we also realize broken promises. I barely knew people who stick true to their new year's resolution and became the person they want to be. But then, we keep on making our new set of promises each year and we've very optimistic to be more "obedient" this time.

I am one of that "new-years-hopeful". This year I promised to keep alive this blog until, well, next year or beyond 2010. I hope this blog won't last only after 2 weeks with only 2 posts. I hope this blog will really recollect my personal thoughts on almost anything anytime anywhere. I hope I could meet more friendly people online. I hope blogging could bring out the best in me.

We'll see next year.
